Brisbane’s Best To Raise Funds For Struggling Hospitals Overseas.

Some of Brisbane’s most creative talents in the fields of fashion design, music and graphics design will have their work showcased at a charity fashion show this August. To be held at The Zoo in the Valley, the show will profile Brisbane’s innovative and eclectic character; while raising funds to purchase essential medical equipment and supplies for struggling medical centres in developing countries around the world.

Fashion designs to be showcased at this year’s show include those by the 2009 MSIT Billabong Swimwear Fashion Designer of the Year; Swarovski Young Designer of the Year nominee; Dubai International Fashion Show exhibitor and current and past QUT Fashion students. Headlining this year’s show will be The Chutes. Their recent EP launch at the Zoo was a sell out, with the EP being played on Triple J, Triple M, and other local stations state-wide. In addition, the EP has been featured on on Foxtel’s Fuel TV. The band has recently completed a successful tour of the state, with commercial radio and television coverage. They will be supported by up and coming local band, Fiction. Also showcased will be the work of extremely talented Brisbane graphics artist, Joyce Ho. Joyce has been hand-picked to work with Museum of Brisbane on Brisbane Goes to the Pictures exhibition; her artist books have been acquired by State Library of Queensland and short-listed for Minister’s Award for Excellence in Art. She was the winner of the 2008 Winner of the QUT Award for Outstanding Animation and 2009 Judge’s Choice Finalist in iinet’s Get Animated competition.

In 2010 the event will be held on the 25th of August at The Zoo. All funds raised in this non-profit event will go towards supporting TIME medical aid projects. TIME is a non-profit student organisation at the University of Queensland School of Medicine which aims to empower and support student initiatives that will make a sustainable difference to health in developing countries. TIME has evolved from humble beginnings to become a fully-fledged global humanitarian aid organisation. The flagship project is the Medical Aid Project, which provides much needed medical equipment and supplies to struggling medical centres in developing countries around the world. Last year, TIME supplied essential equipment and medicine to over 19 countries, including Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, India and Peru.
