New Single And Video.
What’s a crazy eyed Russian doll to do when some skank of a Barbie doll is poaching her favourite boy toy? This is the theme of the offbeat and catchy new single by the always-intriguing John Meyer.
While John continues to work on his much anticipated debut album, due for release mid 2010, he’s giving us a taste of what’s to come with his new single ‘Toy Box Love Triangle’. The song tells the story of a love triangle between a Russian doll, a Barbie doll and a finger puppet. It’s a good example of John’s trademark schizophrenic songwriting style, with somewhat absurd and amusing lyrics set to a brooding, disturbed and mournful tune.
Late February sees John touring the single through Qld and NSW, with dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Byron Bay, and Toowoomba. To celebrate, John has crafted a limited number of special edition singles, hand coloured and signed, that will only be available at these shows.
John has just signed to Sydney label Ordio Productions and throughout February ‘Toy Box’ is available for free download from the label’s website. (http://www.ordioproductions.com.au)
The music video for the song, featuring various Brisbane musicians in ridiculous costumes, is out now on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/goodshipperj) and will soon be seen on ABC’s Rage.
