Queensland Music Award winners embark on Europe tour

Two time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA are fundraising to take their blend of world music to Europe. The six piece gypsy folk band whose members come from Australia, France, Latvia, Bosnia and Greece will be hitting the summer festival circuit in Germany, Austria, France and Czech Republic.

MZAZA is one of the most unique bands coming out of Australia today. Driven by her ancestry, French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy is an enchanting stage leader at the helm of this unlikely group who have found each other at the end of the world. For ten years now the group has been mesmerising Australian audiences with powerful and inspired performances. After years of preparation they are ready to take a leap of faith and join the ranks of Australian bands exporting their music overseas.

Maudy says “It has taken years for us to hone our craft, make contacts, save money and to finally feel ready to take our music to Europe, where so many of our influences come from”

MZAZA’s sophomore album Ghosts, released in 2015, has attracted accolades from critics and peers alike, receiving the Queensland Music Award for best song in both 2015 and 2016 and being showcased at festivals around the country. With much of the original material in French or English and inspired by Balkan music, Ghosts delves into stories of MZAZA’s ancestors and their migratory pasts.

The impressive musicianship of MZAZA – realised with accordion, violin, percussion, double bass and Flamenco guitar – delivers a dynamic and intense live show that is sure to make listeners travel.
